Story behind the Taj Mahal The story behind making of wonderful monument of the Taj Mahal is nothing but a message expressed by Mughal king Shah Jahan to the rest world to make them realize about the deep love which he had towards her beloved wife Arjumand Banu Begum alias Mumtaz Mahal.

Mughal Prince Khurram (Shaj Jahan's childhood name) fell in love with a girl named Arjmand Banu Begam (a Muslim Persian princess) while walking through the market of Agra in age of 14 year. When he was 20 years old, he married her and changed her name from Arjmand Banu Begam to Mumtaz Mahal. He also offered her the royal seal of principal queen as he became Mughal Emperor in 1628. Both had a special heartbeat for each other.

It was the incident after their 19 years of marriage when she was with King Shah Jahan in Burhanpur during a battle while she was pregnant. On death bead due to some difficulties, while giving birth of her 14th child, she asked King four swears -first, that he will build the Taj as a symbol of our undying love which rest world has never seen; second, that he will marry again; third, that he would be kind to their children; and fourth, that he will visit the tomb on her death anniversary. So the emergence of the Taj Mahal as a world's most wonderful monument was the consequence of accomplishment of first wish expressed by her beloved wife while she was lying on death bead. Shah Jahan took her first promise very sincerely and started construction in 1631, which was completed with the involvement of 20000 laborers after 22 continuous years of effort. It was someone's dream which became true and today it stands as a world's wonder and also as a world heritage site by UNESCO. Taj Mahal Architecture Mughals have built a series of noble buildings in India and the Taj Mahal is one of the best among them due to its painstaking craftsmanship, design and architecture. It was Shah Jahaan who built this wonderful monument during his regime (1628 to 1658). All the Mughal rulers were great lover of art and architecture and the age of Shah Jahan was the golden age for Mughal architecture and design. That is why this magnificent monument (the Taj Mahal) is considered as world's wonder. There are a few monuments in the world which architecture is intended as a symbol of love.

The architecture of this matchless monument is made with very scientific planning and with the help of the then noted architects called from around the world. Made of white marble and semi-precious stones, it is the uniqueness of Taj Mahal architecture that it appears with different view at different time of the day and on moonlit nights as well. The four Minarets (40 meters tall) of the Taj Mahal which are set on each four corners of the building give an imposing view of the building. The way these Minarets are positioned with the main building is one fine example of the architectural elegance. The floral work (Pietra Dura), calligraphic work on the arch of the entrance and intricate drawing on the walls are some other specific uniqueness of this building that enhance architectural brilliance of this monument. The design of this building as a whole is an amalgamation of Persian and Indian style. The main architect of this beautiful construction was Ustad Isa Khan of Tukey and master calligrapher was Amanat Khan from Persia while to cast the gold finial on the top of the dome, Qazim Khan had been called from Lahore. Taj Mahal Gateway The beauty of Taj Mhal begins with its massive gateway, which a unique piece of architecture in itself made of red sandstone, which rises till the mid-height of the Taj Mahal approximately 100 feet (30 meters) and with a width of 150 feet (46 meters). The view of the wonderful monument of Tasj Mahal can be taken only when one comes across the main gateway. The gateway is an artificial dividing point between the busy world outside and the serene ambiance within the grounds of the Taj Mahal. It separates the main structure of Taj Mahal along with garden area from the courtyard. The motive behind making this outstanding gateway was to prevent people from getting any glimpse of the tomb inside until they have entered in the doorway itself.

The interesting thing about this gateway is that-when a visitor looks towards the Taj Mhal from the gateway, it seems like a miniature from distance but when one start approaching it, it gradually grows and from close it looks massive and enormous construction. It also gives an exciting feeling that the moment you come at backside of the gateway, you find that the Taj Mahal is disappeared. The construction of this gateway was completed in year 1648 (prior to completion of Taj Mahal). The literature of Quran is inscribed from top to bottom of the gateway in same size which can be seen with necked eyes. Indeed, the sudden view of this world's wonder which a tourist gets by crossing the gateway increases the enjoyment very excitingly. Taj Mahal Garden Popularly known as Charbagh gardens, the Taj Mahal Garden is another charm around this wonderful monument which is magnificently decorated with flowers, trees, fountains and perfectly manicured grass. The garden is built in Persian style of architecture and so lush and green that it gives a view of paradise in presence of Taj Mahal. The garden houses a marble water tank at the mid of the backyard which gives a picturesque reflection of Taj Mahal.

The concept of Charbagh style of garden was introduced by the first Mughal ruler Babur, who was influenced with the fact mentioned in Quran that the garden symbolizes paradise with its four watercourses. So, it is spiritual reason behind Taj Mahal Garden which Shah Jahan also implemented in Taj premises. The Taj Garden area is divided in to four parts comprising of marble canals studded with fountains. There are many plants in garden area and most of them are either cypress (signifying death) or fruit trees (signifying life), which are proportionally arranged. The plants includes strip of charming smelling roses, daffodils and trees that bear fruits. A separate green carpet of garden of Persian style begins from the main gateway and ends at the foot of the Taj Mahal. Indeed these vegetations throughout the managed lush green garden increase the beauty of this wonderful monument.
