About Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal is an alluring mausoleum which was built by the renowned Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz. History of Taj Mahal

The construction of the Taj Mahal was started in A.D. 1632 and it completed in 1658, although it was opened in the year 1648, but it completely constructed in the year 1653. By the hard work of 22,000 workers for 22 years, the entire epitome was built. A fleet of 1,000 elephants were taken to ship the construction material from all over India as well as other parts of the world.

Construction Material

The red sandstone was brought from Fatehpur Sikri, Jade and Crystal from China, Coal & Comelian from Arabia, Lapis Lazuli and Sapphire from Sri Lanka, Turquoise from Tibet, Jasper from Punjab and Diamonds from Panna. Apart from these materials, the usage of precious and semi-precious stones was used under for inlay work in the Taj Mahal. The height of Taj is approx. 240 feet which carries twelve thousand tons with lovable gardens.
